Perhaps the most important news ever - Special Olympics goes Floorball - Full Monty!

This is what the IFF just announced:

"Special Olympics Floorball will be an official sport at the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games held in Austria 2017.
The cities of Graz and Schladming in Styria, Austria, will host the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games.

- Receiving the official Special Olympics World Games status has been our goal since the World Games demonstration in Korea. The process of receiving the official recognition has taken some time, but now we finally received the positive news from the Special Olympics International headquarters in Washington, says Mariusz Damentko, Sports Director of Special Olympics Europa and Eurasia."

Our Comment:
This is one of the best news ever for the Americas of the world, as it comes to Floorball. Doubtless the sport has the power to move mountains by itself - but that occupation also tends to takes some time. And in particular as you face a rather rigid sport structures in many American Schools.

We think Ice Hockey at many places in North America has already discovered Floorball as an outstanding off-ice routine - but many many many many more still need to do this, the same, discovery.
Canada is way ahead of the United States in this Ice Hockey respect, we r sorry to say but we think that is a good description of the current status (GO CANADA GO) - with perhaps the excellent exception of the Dallas Stars NHL Club - and the fitness program with Floorball they run in Dallas schools to fight obesity.

Special Olympics is a good thing. A very good thing. Special Olympics has its roots in the United States and if we are not wrong (without checking the facts) as an example Wisconsin only, sport some 10.000 Special Olympics athletes... So this is incredible good news. We think they all now need to meet Floorball. Then another important perspective from the Special Olympics is the drive to do UNIFY events - and with a sport like Floorball - well few other sports are - according to us - as inclusive as Floorball. This means the venues to do unified Floorball with SO athletes and people from all walks of life - is just - we think - staggering.
The only thing left to do now is to have SO leaders in the Americas to discover Floorball, themselves, hands on. And that may take some time... Even if Floorball sport deep roots both in MN and MI...

Did you ever see this one by the way from 1964 - and listened in to the speaker>?
Unify - Think Unify.

The interesting twist of this story - might one day be - who to credit for the introduction of the new sport Floorball to the USA - was it Ice Hockey or was it the Special Olympics?

Tomorrow will tell!
It is all about where to you are going to - and not where you came from!

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.
