Do we Need Digital Trophies - to brag about?

via wikimedia commons

Via Wikipedia we learn this:"Trophies have marked victories since ancient times. The word trophy coined in English in 1550, was derived from the French trophéein 1513, "a prize of war", from Old French trophee, from Latin trophaeum, monument to victory, variant of tropaeum, which in turn is the latinisation of the Greek τρόπαιον (tropaion), the neuter of τροπαῖος (tropaios), "of defeat" or "for defeat", but generally "of a turning" or "of a change", from τροπή (tropē), "a turn, a change" and that from the verb τρέπω (trepo), "to turn, to alter".

In ancient Greece, trophies were made on the battlefields of victorious battles, from captured arms and standards, and were hung upon a tree or a large stake made to resemble a warrior. Often, these ancient trophies were inscribed with a story of the battle and were dedicated to various gods. Trophies made about naval victories sometimes consisted of entire ships (or what remained of them) laid out on the beach. To destroy a trophy was considered a sacrilege."

In Floorball a Trophy fill one big function and a minor one. The big function is to be handed over as a symbol after a win. The minor function is to be on display in a dusty Club house or at a school..
If we real fast look at modern Computer games some similar things jump up as players in games or on social media sites can collect badges - but these badges mainly fill the same function as old trophies..

The interesting spin on this would be if someone started to issue digital trophies. What is a digital trophy? Well it could be an awesome picture of some sort - maybe a licenced image that could not be reproduced in some way. Perhaps hosted at one place. Irrespective of how such a digital trophy system would be designed - it could perhaps make a difference in two ways?

A) As the normal physical Cup is awarded to a team the very same team could be free to very fast share or expose links for people to view this trophy on social or digital media - maybe in some sort of a snapchat function?
B) Instead of just having old physical trophies sitting in some display box at a club house - with a digital trophy system any webpage, facebook page or similar i.e. social media sites - and maybe even the emails send out from a club could be signed of with a trophy collection that relates to what the team has accomplished..

Not bad huh?

So what sport is first out doing this - Floorball or - someone else.. We think this will happen and we do think someone will be first... and it is all about the bragging rights..  isn't it?

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.
