Listen to me PLEASE! On the subject of Toxic Stress and Emotional Intelligence

We know that it takes about 10.000 hours to become an expert on anything (floorball too). #LTAD agrees on this. That means an incredible amount of time spent in a sport for a young individual if he or she wants to become good.
Then the findings from #LTAD also claim - and we agree - that to be good at one specific sport - you must also do other sports and train according to the age developmental windows of opportunities.

Then toss in a highly performance driven school system that balance one work-sheet after another on the top of the kids heads - in a never ending hunt for numbers that measure performance in points percent or other indeed scores or naked numbers.... driven by policies and directives and overwhelmed teachers. In a race to - well we wonder to where? Those numbers used in grades are to us here a bit sick and they do not emerge from human understanding but from misunderstandings how math may be used and an old mechanistic view that we all are machines.
We think you can measure a dead object with a score or a measurement yes. But as it comes to developing human beings that are to form our future... Well we think most of the numbers used are fully respectless for the young human being. These evolving kids should be described in terms of love instead - and that is not something you may put a cold number on. Our own cold number on the measurement behavior is a 0. And we do think it should be the kids and parents that rated the schools - instead of them rating the kids. This is just a mega big misunderstanding. Who is the customer? Who is the provider? Who normally makes the selection of vote in a true capitalistic system? The service provider or the customer? Just askin'...

Still in the race for performance... some automatic functions kicks-in that indeed not work to enhance performance but instead has counter productive effects and just hurts the development. This seems to be scientifically proven...

We have found this incredible resource - that indeed dive in to two main areas that directly aim for the development of very good athletes.... Yes in Floorball too.
So PLEASE - you do not need to read it all - but if you hand pick a few of these resources on the subjects of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and TOXIC STRESS. Then you are well ahead of all other coaches.

This is an incredible good compilation of things you should know if you work with kids - and indeed if you have kids or just plan to get kids.

Hey just pick one area - read it and try to make it fit into what you do - remember this is not about you - but the future of the society.

So work with big things and not the nitty gritty please...

Caution

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.

Also if you get addicted to this sport - do not blame us!
