Floorball is for real on the Cayman Islands too

Speed

These are the First Floorballers ever on the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands,
Are well-known for many of its Olympic Athletes. It is also a great tourist and financial place, and they do many sports -  influenced by both the Britts and by Americans. And Yes the Cayman Islands have their own Olympic Committee....

So Coach Dave Beaudin, from Tampa Florida packed up some bags of Floorball sticks, went there and then he sent us this report:

This Past Oct 23-26th I went to the Cayman Islands to introduce Floorball to the Kids who participate in sports @ The Kings Sports Centre in Georgetown, C.I. My Island Host was Dave Maclean. Mr Maclean is the Director of Sports at the Multi Sport Facility. The Kings Sports Centre has a Squash area, Fitness area, Bowling Center, Juice Bar, Karate Room and a 180 x 85 Sport Court Hockey Arena, that can host 2 Basketball Courts, 1 Indoor Soccer Rink and Roller Hockey.

The Roller hockey league includes 6 Mens Clubs and over 150 Youth Hockey Roller players ( 5 age Divisions) . The U8 DART "Ducks" took 2nd place in Fort Meyers Echo Roller event the week before our Floorball Tour.

During the the Floorball Training Clinic and Mini Game tournament the players had great success transitioning to the Game. There were 2 age groups that participated that included 31 players ( Girls and Boys). As the young players learned the rules and the concepts, you could see that they were focused and enjoyed the non contact sport. I hope to return to implement a Full League and then possibly HOST an Event in 2012.

More developments just came in from the IFF, they announced Mozambique to be the 55th country with an IFF membership and a National Floorball Federation - that is cool for Africa - http://windows3.salibandy.net/default.asp?kieli=826&sivu=570&alasivu=570

Caution

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.

Also if you get addicted to this sport - do not blame us!
