The IFF tossed away their own website!?

The International Floorball Federation just tossed away their own website...
Well it is true - they directed it all to Champions Cup instead - so do not worry.
And it would not surprise us if they come back with a brand new website after this tourney is over.
Here it is for now www.floorball.org
Anyway the President has delivered a message just before this tourney - and since media and expansion is stressed - well we will just re-run it here like "poff" straight off the bat..

Dear Floorball friends,

It is with joy and pleasure, the International Floorball family returns once again to Umeå, “the Floorball Capital of Sweden”, for the Champions Cup organised by the Swedish Floorball Federation. We have fresh in mind the very well executed World University Championships that took place in May 2010, when the city and all its stakeholders presented themselves from the very best side.

Our sport has taken a number of important steps forward, in order to reach the Vision laid out for 2020 and a place in the Olympic Games. The next task is to be ready for 2015, when the IOC chooses the contenders for the “short list” of sports that have a possibility to enter the 2024 Olympic Games. The whole Floorball Community faces major challenges – it is now the real work begins, in order to determine whether we will become something bigger than just another team sport. In order to increase the importance of Floorball, all stakeholders, need to comprehend, that growing the real value of the sport, even on a local level, can only be done by increasing the insight of what is needed to build an international sports brand. Regardless of how it might look on a local level, there is only one global world.

The goal of entering a multi-sport event in the coming 5-8 years – requires that we really go public, on all levels and communicate the important values that Floorball possess. It will in the end be the relative importance of Floorball in each country where it’s played, which will determine our faith on the international market. If we can prove to be an asset on a national level, the sport structures will also support us on the international level. Here the responsibility lies primary on the countries participating in this WFC and its qualifications. Therefore IFF will in the next years, as a part of the implementation of the License System, try to find means and forms to strengthen the operations of the IFF members, so that we are ready to take the next steps. In the coming months IFF is conducting an “associations audit”, in order to determine how IFF on the one hand can help all countries, and how the countries can help one another, with the theme “each one teach one”.

The development of Floorball requires that we can increase our brand and media visibility. In order to do that, we need to secure, in one way or the other, a much broader TV visibility, since we will not be able to increase the general awareness of the general public with our fabulous internet-TV, which is a valuable service for the fans. A good relationship to national TV is essential; in order to grow the sport, but it has to be made on the terms of the sport.

The IFF conveys our gratitude to the city of Umeå and the Swedish Floorball Federation, to the President Mr Tomas Engholm, with its good management, for your support and commitment.

On behalf of the entire Floorball family, I greet all the participants; athletes, officials, volunteers, spectators, sponsors and co-operating partners and the representatives of media, heartily welcome to Umeå and the Champions Cup.

Looking forward to seeing you and a thrilling tournament,

Tomas Eriksson
IFF President

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.

Also if you get addicted to this sport - do not blame us!
