New World Record

Earlier this week, Finnish national team player, Otto Tikka, destroyed the previous world record for the fastest floorball shot by almost 2 km/h!

Tikka, it training for the 2010 World Floorball Championships, shot an amazing 205.0 km/h (127.4 mi/h) shot. The defender, using his Exel stick, ripped a slap shot that was impossible to see.

The shot was measured using a Stalker Sport radar gun and the SpeedHero Magical Games app for Nokia phones.

However, the record has been deemed unofficial and will not be recognized for several reasons, including the fact that the ball must remain stationary, the backswing was way over 125cm, and the stick seems to have a curve larger than 30mm, among other issues. Unfortunate, but still incredible.

Incredible, eh? I know I personally can shoot about 165 (and that was in May 2009 in Finland at the World MU19 Championships when I played for Canada; it's probably gotten better too.)

So I'm posing a challenge to everyone. Try and measure your floorball shot. If you can get to 170 km/h and post it on YouTube, we'll post it here on Floorball U and we'll recognize you as well.

Game on!

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.
