Repost from Mr Koo - and expectations of 5000 spectators

We have been granted permission to re-post the material that comes live to us from Jonathan Koo and the Canadian Team over in Finland.
Here is a first look at what was posted at http://www.teamcanadafloorball.com/ yesterday

Team Canada's First Practice

posted Nov 29, 2010 9:36 AM by Jonathan Koo   [ updated Nov 29, 2010 9:46 AM ]
A recent picture from our first practise at Spiral Arena on the 28th of November.
There was a nice suprise when the local Tampere club
Ilves sent their Team Canada floorball players to
greet Team Canada.  These young floorball
players have been raising money and
presented CANADA beanies to the entire team.

These same young Ilves 01 players will accompany
Team Canada on the 5th of December when Canada
plays host-team Finland.
There is expected to be over 5000 spectators
The game will also be broadcasted live
on Finnish television and over the web.

News from MA

More reports are coming in from MA and how they develop Floorball as to be used for off-ice practice for young Hockey players. Read it in full here http://ma-floorball.blogspot.com/p/about-this-new-program.html
It sounds like they plan to be up running with this in January 2011.
If you have any questions upon this please feel free to contact Coach Dennis Chighisola that is behind this program, listed at the same site.

In the news - or a link frenzy

The IFF just recently presented the invitation to the 2012 Male WFC in Switzerland

Here is how a rap artist will comment upon live games in sign language at WFC 2010 - Yes creative indeed!

If You have not yet read all about our own predictions in regards to the WFC2010 - do it now.
Here is official group presentations
Group A
Group B
Group C
And IFF just today released Group D too!

More eyes on Canada

Since the WFC2010 now starts in just a few days and the only team able to participate from North America (due in part to an odd qualification system) is Canada. Much of our focus will most likely slip towards Canada and hopefully to Australia too in the next couple of days, since we believe these two teams will become the main foundation for news in English from WFC2010.
The kind of news this sport needs so much.

Anyway, no more griping on that right now - here is an interview that is all about Canada and how Team Canada will do in the very next few days. Brought to us by Floorball Quebec, thank You guys!

On Field Hockey and Floorball

Here you find a very interesting story that describes how an Australian player in field hockey one summer three years ago tried Floorball.
What happend? Well he is right now in Finland to play for Australia in the World Floorball Championships 2010.
Read more in detail here http://www.inmycommunity.com.au/News/Detail/SportDetail.aspx?id=7576424
Otherwise only 8 days left to vote in our poll - Finland is ahead and even if Sweden just got a few extra votes _ do not see how in the world they will be able to surpass Finland. ONly Latvia can do the magic trick I assume.

Floorball League Demo out now!

This has just been cut from the developers main webpage
"Feel free to play Floorball League Demo before the full retail version hits the stores. Full retail version of the game is available in Finland from resellers on 3rd of December 2010. The Central Hockey League's Mudbugs play Floorball in P.E. Class.
This means they use Floorball to increase the interest for Hockey.
Sounds odd - no it is just the natural thing to do - ask any NHL player raised on Floorball in school (most NHL players from west Europe is de facto raised with Floorball in school).

Hayley Wickenheiser Hockey Festival

BC Floorball in Canada presented Floorball to hundreds of female ice hockey players at the Executive Plaza Inn, Coquitlam.

Head of Sport BC, Tim Gayda, Olympian Ben Rutledge, and of course Hayley herself were on hand to witness the Floorball Frenzy.
Thanks to the Organizers! and we hope that these young players will utilize Floorball to improve their hockey skills.

Spanish, Russian and a Bus

Here is three interesting links

A) A TV presentation on Floorball in Spanish for all Spanish speaking people across the Americas - from Madrid Spain
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ViNsoM2ihg Mira DIEGO!

B) Innebandyplaneten, that mainly posts in Swedish has an English coverage here upon Russia.
And Russia must be very interesting for any American or Canadian - since they have the same Hockey culture there as here. It sounds like Floorball is exploding over there

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 11th Place

So we are now 5 teams down, and still there are 11 to go. I realise that there have been problem with my posts linking and showing up, but everything should be working now.

And of course, please remember to comment. I was hoping for some constructive criticism; maybe some debate over whether or not a team will finish in the place we’ve predicted.

Well anyways, so 11th place. This was a tough one to determine, but I’ve settled with a team that has been practicing together for years and has played scores of international matches in the weeks upcoming to these world championships.

SSL Warberg-Falun main action

Thanks to TV4 and SSL here is highlights from last weeks SSL Warberg-Falun...

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 12th Place

Alright, so with the bottom 4 looked at, let’s look at the rest of the top 12 (or the rest of the bottom 8 if you will).

So which team will finish in 12th place? Well, after crunching a lot of numbers, looking through rosters, and looking at head-to-head results from history, we’ve finally determined it.

Again, it’s a European country. That’s not saying much as 3 of the 4 non-European nations have already been mentioned (all finishing in the bottom 3), so you can eliminate Canada once again.

JACT Junior 2010 (Malaysia)

I was a week late in posting this, but better late than never right ? I was privileged enough to attend a youth floorball tournament last Sunday organized by AMSA Floorball. The tournament is JACT Junior 2010 and it is one of the first youth tournaments in Selangor, Malaysia.

The man behind this tournament, Gilbert Wong, is fast becoming a great friend of mine in floorball and I am really honored to working with him in organizing this tournament. I attended the tournament as part of an organizer, referee and spectator. Of course, I enjoyed most by sitting on the stands and cheering for the teams.

The tournament comprises of 2 categories; primary (7-12 y/o) and secondary schools (13-17 y/o), a round-robin format with the two best teams playing in the playoff-Finals for the title. The tournament was spectated by minimal crowd; mainly parents, floorball players and friends.

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 13th Place

With day 4 of our world floorball championship predictions, we’ll be rounding out the bottom 4. So far, we’ve looked at the 3 AOFC teams, who we predict will finish at the bottom of the standings.

So Japan, Singapore, and Australia are now out of the picture, so who finishes in 13th place? Well, this team will have to finish 4th in their group (Canada, Denmark, Finland, Russia) and will defeat Australia in the placement match.

And which of those 4 teams will it be? Well, this might come as a shocker to everyone here, but our prediction is a team from Europe.

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 14th Place

Alright, so you’re back to see the 14th place prediction, right? Obviously, or you wouldn’t have read this much.

Well, first off, let’s just quickly recap our predictions so far. Finishing in 16th, we have Japan, and in 15th, Singapore. Yes, two AOFC teams. But why are they both placed in the last two positions? Well, it’s more of their groups than anything. Their groups present tough challenges that most likely won’t be overcome. If you’re from Japan or Singapore and you’re reading this blog, sorry, but this is true.

But what about the last AOFC team? Where do they place in all of this? Well, let’s just reveal the 14th place team now …

Is Floorball good for You?

This is outrageous cool even if only in beta

It is like only 15 people that have done this soo far as doing Floorball - all from Europe.
They fully log what they do in respect of physical performance and then post it on-line.

It sure looks good - hey first player doing this in America or Asia...
let us know and we will post something on it - only valid for Floorball.

WFC 2010 new Interview from IFF

No we don't  - Matthias Hofbauer is...

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 15th Place

So after we predicted Japan to finish 16th, we now look at the 15th placed team. To some it may not come as much as a shock, but it’s almost inevitable.

This team has also been around for a long time on the floorball scene. They played at the first world floorball championship and their best finish was 12th place.

Still don’t know?

Floorball and Twitter - a Crash Course

Today @ulfjens on Twitter just surpassed @IFF_Floorball
The utterly most important first - why is it so crucial to use Twitter to promote Floorball? I say Twitter reach very much a target group of early adopters (people prone to try new stuff) - that means Twitter, as it works today - may target people that might be very interested in Floorball at the very right moment in their life. This is why I think Tweeting - is the right thing to do. Like Now.

How can we use Twitter to communicate about Floorball? Continue to read my full explanation - as it is important!

SSL with - USA twist

Here is a clip from practice with Linköping, a team new in the Swedish Super League. That this year have produced some surprising victories - including a win over last years Swedish Champions.
We this might be interesting by three reasons A) How Swedish TV covers Floorball during a practice session.
B) It is interesting to see how top level Floorball practice looks like. C) The current USA male Floorball national coach Mr. Hedlund is coaching this team.

Here you have a full TV channel on You Tube by PIXBO-TV.
PIXBO is one of the best Swedish teams in the professional Floorball League
SSL - or the Swedish Super League

Then there is an excellent report upon Special Olympics here via IFF
We think this part of Floorball development is very important for the full growth of the sport.
By rumors we know that Ireland took a prestigious third place in one division and this must be Ireland's best performance ever as related to Floorball, - we think.

Changed dates

This is what the people behind FBL let us know today:
Official release date changed
December 3rd, 2010 is the official PC DVD release date for the Floorball League. Stay tuned!

No word on the demo that was supposed to be released today - we will update this as soon as we know something more.

Men's 2010 WFC Prediction - 16th Place

So we’re starting our WFC predictions today, and we’re going to look at teams in the order we predict they will finish in.

For example, we’ll start with the 16th place team today, before moving on to the 15th and so on. The team we’ll be looking at today is Japan.

Noteworthy News

Just a few hours ago the first fully based Hockey School in USA published a website or blog devoted to Floorball. I am talking about the New England Hockey Institute and the pioneer behind this is the well-known hockey Coach “Coach Chic” or Dennis Chighisola.
My advice if you are interested in Hockey or Floorball that you check this out
Or why not also hook up with all the good tweets that comes on twitter from Coach Chic.
http://twitter.com/#!/CoachChic. Yes you can find him on Facebook too http://www.facebook.com/CoachChic. It is not just about Hockey or Floorball - it is also good recommendations as a coach for the common every day life with many good insights served.
Other interesting Floorball stuff came in from Prague Masters in the Czech republic where over 600 veterans and 39 teams from many countries with players over the age of 35 for males - and 30 for the females, now for the 5th time fought about victory last weekend. Yes this is only a tournament for the more mature players. Yet again we saw Norway grab a bronze medal in a large International tournament in the female games - a development that is good for the sport, I think.
Who won then? Best reports come direct from the source, here. http://www.praguemasters.cz/EN/Index.asp?lng=EN
or from IFF http://www.floorball.org/news.asp?tyyppi=&offset=0&kieli=826&id_tiedote=1721&alue=171
Tomorrow we look forward to the release of the first Full demo release of the PC- game FBL or as it is also called FloorBall League from Finland.
And I also suspect that Andrzej tomorrow will start to publish a series of very interesting material on the upcoming WFC 2010.
Stay tuned!

WC 2010 Rosters Online (men)

Mens World Cup 2010 rosters are now online at IFF Web site. Vote for your favorite Team on our right side bar.

- Uncle Sam

Greetings all Floorball fanatics

Hello all Floorball fanatics,

Let me introduce myself. I joined recently here at Floorballcentral.com as new blogger. My roots are from Finland, and last couple of years I've been living in Switzerland. I have over 10 years of experience playing & coaching floorball, including some other Team sports too like ice-hockey.

I think floorball has massive potential of coming the next big sport. Its fast game with very good tactical ground too; also equipment is extremely light-weight and non-expensive. You can basically play it everywhere.

Personally I feel that Official Floorball Organizations aren't doing enough effort for promoting our beloved sport on national or international level. Hopefully this will be fixed in the near future.

I will be covering events mostly related to Switzerland and Finland, sometimes nearby countries too.

Lets see how things get started and I wish you all happy Floorballing. ;)

Another kind of a World record

November 13th and 14th 2010 the floorball team Swiss Energy IBK from Zurich played against Züribär from Bern in the longest floorball game ever to create a new world record. The two teams from Switzerland did it and played 25 hours and 16 min!
We can not verify if this is the longest game ever since our source is rather weak. But we think it might be the very longest Floorball game ever.
We do not know the score - but maybe they lost track? We also assume they got slightly tired. Just think of it and you will get tired too.
Good work you guys.
How it looked like? Follow this link buddy.
Is there any two teams that can beat this - let us know.

FBL will arrive earlier!

This is direct from the producers of the big NEW Floorball game for PC.
Time to buy a new computer maybe?
"The wait will be soon over now, as the PC DVD release date for Finland has been set as November 25th - that's only 12 days and the game will be available at your local well-equipped stores or gaming shops. We are also pushing the digital version of FBL to several digital distribution websites, so that the game will be the most conveniently available also for the gamers outside Finland soon after 25th.

The final demo version will be already released November 17th. We recommend you try the demo first before purchasing the game, so you'll be 100% sure it works on your PC the way you'd expect."

Federer and Tennis practice related to Floorball

No no no, this is not the way to do it. And I do say this is not the way Roger Federer played Floorball either. And I can further with full confidence say that this is not the way many members of the Swedish ATP Tennis team use or used Floorball either. This is just too much.

It is on the other hand good that other people can see a link between Floorball and Tennis but this practice video clip is just too much to be true..
One more thing - if You like Tennis and Floorball - get at least a decent stick.

G'day from down under

So a short while ago I was contacted by Michael to be somewhat of a correspondent of floorball from Australia, which I gladly accepted. For my first post I thought I would introduce myself and give an overview of floorball in Australia. My name is Andrew, I play floorball in Australia, organise my own team and also run my own website: GongFloorball.com.

As for floorball in Australia, floorball is still a growing sport down under. Not many people have heard of, let alone seen floorball. But that is changing as the sport is continuing to grow and flourish. Australia does submit a team for the WFC and APAC and the quality of players is always improving. However, Australia is a sparse and isolated country, and it is hard to organise interstate and international competitions which would help to expand the sport. Anyway that gets the introductions and such out of the way early, hopefully I’ll be able to post up so more interesting information soon.

Canada Announces 20-man Roster

Earlier today, Canadian men's national floorball team General Manager, Harry Hannelius, announced the final 20-man roster for Canada at the 2010 World Championships.

The preliminary roster named 30 individuals from British Columbia, Finland, Ontario, Quebec, and Switzerland. Now that the roster has been trimmed down, we have a world floorball championship caliber team.

But of course, the team has to be strong; hockey rivals Russia present Canada with their first challenge at the WFC, followed by defending world champions Finland, before they are challenged by Denmark.

Since I think they only have Sisu in Finland.
Is this Sisu - if you are Finnish you may know...?
Is there someone else that wants to take out a 'T" in their logo as you have seen this clip?

International Weekend Results

Earlier this month, we told you about an upcoming international weekend with world championship implications.

Well, this tournament took place over this last weekend, ending in some shocking results. Although the standings include the extra point that a team received in the shootout, the matches were definitely closer than they seemed.

We're of course, looking at the men's side of things here. Some amazing matches were played, and with all the intensity, you'd think they're playing for the Olympic gold medal! This was definitely high caliber floorball, and the teams were going all out to get the wins they think they deserve. Based on this, the 2010 world championships will be the best of them all.

2011 U.S. Nationals Announced

Earlier this week, the United States Floorball Association (USFbA) announced that the 2011 United States National Floorball Championships will be held in Dallas, Texas. The event would be held in August of 2011, in tandem with FloorballPlanet's Texas Shoot Out Tournament.

Although accurate dates and venues have yet to be confirmed, FloorballPlanet's Jukka Kotti seems certain that it will be a big event. And it definitely will be as well, seeing as this is the 2nd annual championships and it provides more recognition from international associations, such as the IFF.

4Ps' of Floorball

I am a Marketing student myself (E-Commerce & Marketing to be exact) and have been through many different business theories throughout my 2 years of college life, so far. One thing in common is the 4Ps' of marketing strategy;  business students should know the famous "Product, Price, Place, Promotion". A much advanced strategy consists of 7; People, Process and Physical are the addition. But let us stick to the basic 4Ps'.

I was out jogging one day and digesting some thoughts deep in my mind. I thought there must be a way for every floorball players to improve in the sport besides playing it often. Of course, if you have to improve, then I think you have to figure a way out; like setting goals and objectives.

Hockey Mag in Canada...

New World Record

Earlier this week, Finnish national team player, Otto Tikka, destroyed the previous world record for the fastest floorball shot by almost 2 km/h!

Tikka, it training for the 2010 World Floorball Championships, shot an amazing 205.0 km/h (127.4 mi/h) shot. The defender, using his Exel stick, ripped a slap shot that was impossible to see.

The shot was measured using a Stalker Sport radar gun and the SpeedHero Magical Games app for Nokia phones.

Down Under revs up

Outstanding selection of pictures on how Australia revs up for WFC 2010.
Note this may be under copyright so do not copy without permission from the photographer.

One Ball - is right!

The IFF has just released a new logo and expressed its view upon the brand name issue on Floorball.

We are very pleased with this. IFF shows us that they are sensitive and work with and drive this very important issue in a good direction. There are, however, three areas I just briefly want to address in relation to this matter.

First I think "the slogan" (I prefer to call it a Pay-Off) selected would have been stronger if read One Globe - One Ball. I think the globe corresponds better to the ball as seen in the logo IFF uses and so far - to my knowledge - they have not played Floorball on the Moon yet (they did play golf). So the Globe would better describe the situation than the word world - at least for now. I am fully aware that this my opinion is more a matter of taste than anything else. However taste can be important too.

EFT on Your computer

The Euro Floorball Tour is coming to a computer near You. Six of the Men´s & Men´s U19 and all the Women´s & Women´s U19 EFT matches played the 5th-7th of November can be followed LIVE on Web-TV. That is tomorrow and over the weekend You guys. As we have written before it is a big international weekend coming up
Men´s & Men´s U19 EFT Web-TV matches: N.B. our dates are listed according to the US standard - that reads month - day. CET stands for central European times - so these games comes up early in the Americas.

Go “Product Place” today

Have you ever wondered why you see so much Apple Computers and Coca-Cola in big main movies from Hollywood?

It is because these companies are good at working with product placement, meaning they know how to get their products into the big screen. Some companies pay for this other use their network of contacts, depending upon the product or service represented or the Movie-, TV-show- or even the “You Tube” production they want to have their product or service visible in.

Is it possible to “product place” Floorball in a similar manner?

SSL Helsingborg-AIK

Lets try something new here.
Instead of embedding the full game (+ 2 hrs) from the Swedish Super League in Floorball.
We will just post a link out to the source material.

Source for Sports talk Floorball

Source for Sports is a retailer of Sport Equipment.
Here is their take on Floorball. It is a rather new thing for them. They see relations to Hockey and an activity that can be done by everyone. They talk about schools and team building experiences...Maybe it is better if they talk for themselves?

This is what they do in Canada, right now - what do You do to keep up with this wonderful development?

Latvia Go Go go

Latvia have some less than 2000 licensed Floorball players - if I am not fully wrong without checking the facts. Latvia is not one of the larger northern countries in Europe. BUT!
Today they have now surpassed Finland in our vote upon what Team will win WFC2010 in Finland that starts in almost a month.
This tell us that Latvia has a wonderful group of followers that fully support their own National Team. Congratulations Latvia and good luck with the rest of your vote as well as the great tournament in Finland.
Go Latvia GO!

It is cool stuff!

Only one way is like - Norway

This is some of the best possible female Floorball from Norway.
It is from their top league and the first part of this movie gives an outstanding example of power-play.
Take a moment and see how they own the ball - the idea is if your team owns the ball the other team can not score. And the longer the ball is in your possession - it gets more and more likely that you will score...
We will not embed this video since it slightly slows down our blog - but the link out works as good.
Just remember to return back to us...

'I just wonder about the day that the Sons of Norway will discover Floorball?
Sons of Norway is an American organization that works with Norwegian culture in America.
I say Floorball is modern Scandinavian culture too so maybe it ought to be on their plate?

Linus to Predators

Just a few days ago the Hockey player Linus Klasen was called up from the AHL league to the NHL Nashville Predators.

This is what he said in a not too old interview in Swedish main media.
Let us quote:
"How have you improved Your stick-handling?
– Well, I have always been working with a stick, a puck and a ball. I played Floorball, regular bandy, inline hockey and street Hockey as I was younger"
End quote ...
Later on in this answer he also say that maybe playing the drums also gave him "soft hands".
In an other newspaper Interview from 3 years back this is what the goalie said as he just let a puck score after a dangle from Linus:
"It is ridiculous. He does not just take the puck up on the blade. Ha stands there and waive with his stick like a Floorball player before he scores"

This is what a good Linus signed score looks like on You tube

Good Luck with the Predators Linus and we are here fully convinced that as a Hockey player You miss out on something if You do not gangle with Floorball.

Research suggest that eye-injuries are more common in Floorball as compared to Tennis, but less common as compared to Squash (similar to Racquetball).
To minimize this risk of injury Floorballcentral recommend: Use certified protective eye-wear (mandated in many European areas for the youth). Do not lay down on the court. Follow the rules strict on stick height.

Also if you get addicted to this sport - do not blame us!
